The Legacy of the 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regimental Band
Founded by John Huffman, the 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regimental Band pays homage to Civil War history through music. Although Huffman, the director, does not perform, he leads a dedicated group of approximately 20 musicians who bring historical tunes to life. Their upcoming concert at the Victoria Opera House in Baltimore will feature period-accurate music alongside historical insights provided by historian Steve Ball.
The band, established in 2012, has gained recognition for its authentic performances at reenactments and commemorative events, including leading the Remembrance Day Parade in Gettysburg. Huffman's passion for brass music and history inspired him to create this ensemble, which aims to replicate the sound and experience of Civil War-era performances.
With a commitment to authenticity, the band has acquired Civil War-era instruments and wears period-appropriate uniforms. Their performances not only entertain but also educate audiences about the significance of music during the Civil War, enhancing the understanding of soldiers' experiences through historical context.
CFG Bank Arena Customers Reviews
"waste of time"
This is my second time attending a President - Band performance. My first time was a few years ago at the Universal Amphitheater, and I really enjoyed it then. Their ages are 16, 19, 21, and 16, and I was accompanied by my two nephews, my son, and a friend. The pre-show entertainment this time was extremely long, with a band playing for over an hour, making me feel like I was at a concert for a while. I would have preferred they stick to the "comedy" theme, considering that's what I paid for. While I appreciated Mr. Lopez's humor about Latino culture, I found his simulated masturbation on stage distasteful and unnecessarily vulgar. I don't recall him doing such a performance in the past. I believe it's possible to be funny and use some strong language, but Mr. Lopez seems to be going too far. If I had known about this beforehand, I would not have attended. It seems like Mr. Lopez may be struggling for new ideas and becoming desperate in his creativity. As a result, I won't be going to his performances anymore. If you're a parent with teenagers, you might understand my perspective after reading this review.
